SPM principle: Phase Imaging mode

Annealed mixture of two different types of poly(phenylenevinylene) (PPV). Pictures are obtained in semicontact mode: left picture is topography, right picture is phase image. The phase image demonstrates  ringed molecules of PPV with diameter of about 20nm. Such ringed form can be explained by simmetry of PPV molecule. These molecules are invisible on the topography image.
